Work Club

Have you heard about the Work Club which meets on Thursdays between 10am and 12.30pm at the Community Centre on Kingsfold Drive? If you are unemployed, aged 18 plus, and actively seeking work, the Work Club offers a place to meet, exchange skills, share experiences, find opportunities and get the right help and support. The Work Club is the Job Centre Plus endorsed Club for Penwortham, Kingsfold, Lostock Hall, Bamber Bridge and Longton. Perhaps you or somebody you know might benefit from becoming a member? The Work Club's website has a helpful list of on-line resources for those seeking employment or experiencing some of the stresses that losing your job can bring. The Club works with a range of organisations that can help. The Work Club invites guest speakers, including people from local businesses, to talk about local opportunities. Perhaps you are a potential speaker with something to offer? Get in touch! The Work Club team is led by Mark Willett who is a professional Careers Guidance Adviser, Social Entrepreneur and semi-retired Manager for Careers and Employment Services, as well as being a member of the Leadership Team at King's Church. King's Church, which meets at Penwortham Girls High School, is the Club's main sponsor. In a new initiative, the Work Club is currently running a CAP Job Club course on Thursday afternoons covering topics such as identifying strengths, CV writing and interview techniques. CAP is short for Christians Against Poverty. For more information, or to make a donation, visit The Work Club and for even more information call 0754 2736 095. You can also ask for details at your local Job Centre or email or call in at Penwortham Community Centre on Thursdays between 10am and 12.30pm during term time.

There are lots of jobs to do to keep St Leonard's running and we'd like to encourage more people to get involved. Perhaps you could become an Altar Server? Speak to Father Nick or Reverend Sharon. Our Church Choir is seeking new singers, both adults and children. Have a word with our Organist and Choir Master, David Cookson, for more details. We urgently need more assistance with running a coffee rota after the 10am Sunday Service. Please could any volunteers make themselves known to the Church Wardens. We would also be delighted for any fresh ideas or offers of help with fundraising. Perhaps you would like to organize an event? Speak to one of the Wardens. You will be welcomed with open arms!

St Leonard's Church...our first 150 years

The foundation stone at the front of church was laid in 1969, and if you're a little older you may remember the 'tin church' at the foot of Marshall's Brow that opened in 1901...but our Congregation goes back even further than that. Churchwarden Philip Walsh has researched and compiled a special booklet, complete with old photos, that celebrates our 150 years of history - not just the buildings but the people too. You can take a look at it here 150th History Booklet.

Quiet Word

We are aware that sometimes at the end of a service and in the crush of the Porch it's difficult to talk properly or confidentially. So if you would like someone to talk to, pray with you, leave a confidential message to be passed on, ask for prayers for someone etc. please ask Fr. Nick, Rev’d. Sharon or our Pastoral Assistants, Mrs Jenny Stanton and Mrs Gina Rigby for a quiet word. If you need to speak with a particular person please just ask. Please note our contact details are available on the contact us page of this website and in the parish magazine. Nothing is too small or unimportant to talk through, so please do have a quiet word if you wish.
