ABOUT US
St Leonard's was created in the 19th century from the Parish of St Mary Penwortham. The original building, affectionately known as the 'Tin Church' was replaced by a new building nearly 40 years ago. It's regarded as a large parish with an electoral roll of over 110. The parish is part of the Leyland Deanery in the Diocese of Blackburn.
You can find us to the south west of the City of Preston in Lancashire. ( Directions - How to find us.) Our area covers the South West of Penwortham, bounded by the Ring Road and Bee Lane; the railway line to the East and the River Ribble to the North. We are part of the Parish Council of Penwortham in the Borough of South Ribble.
We are members of "Churches Together in Penwortham" sharing Ecumenical Services and Processions of Witness. We have close relationships with Middleforth Church of England Primary School as well as the other Junior Schools in our Parish.
Please use the menu bar or follow the links to find details of our regular and special services including Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals and other activities such as Emmaus groups. St Leonard's welcomes children and young people and hosts a number of groups and activities - see the Young People pages. We also have good links with the Uniformed Organisations.
Our premises are disabled friendly and we have plans for further developments to make the building more accessible and welcoming. Our Church Halls are available to hire and are well-used by a variety of Parish Groups and other organizations.
For several years we have held Church "Away Days" and more are planned. These exciting ventures help us to form our thinking and respond to the challenge of Mission in which the whole Diocese shares. Out of these come the following statements which give a clear picture of what Church means to us:
Our Vision is -
